Design registration under the Designs Act protects the visual appearance — shape, configuration, pattern or ornamentation — of a product. We classify the design, prepare the representation sheets and file the application for up to 10 years of protection (extendable to 15).
Heads up: Government fee (₹1,000 for individuals/startups/small entities per design; higher for others) is extra and paid to the Designs Office.

What can be protected as a design?
The aesthetic appearance of a product — its shape, surface pattern, configuration or ornamentation — that appeals to the eye. Functional features are not covered.
How long does design protection last?
A registered design is protected for 10 years from registration and can be renewed for a further 5 years, giving up to 15 years of protection.
